I’ve been a dog walker for eight years. In that time I’ve walked more than 300 dogs: big pullers, nervous rescues, bouncy puppies, and every kind of dog in between. I also studied animal behaviour at university, so I’ve spent a long time thinking about what actually happens at the end of a lead.

And for a long time, I wasn’t happy with what I saw.

Why I made my own harness

Harnesses that rubbed. Leads that jolted my shoulder every time a squirrel appeared. Collars that looked great until the first wet week. I’d tried them all, on hundreds of different dogs, in every kind of British weather, and I kept thinking: there has to be a better way.

So I designed one.

The TOBI anti-pull harness is built around everything I’ve learned on the job. The lead clips at the front of the chest, so when a dog pulls they’re gently turned back towards you instead of dragging you forward. It works with how dogs move rather than fighting it. There’s no pressure on the throat and no complicated straps, just calmer walks for both of you.

Every piece has been tested the way it’s meant to be used: out on real walks, with real dogs.

Why “TOBI”?

TOBI is named after my dog, Toby.

He was by my side through so many walks, and when he passed, I wanted to make something that carried a bit of him with it. Every harness, lead and collar with his name on it is my way of keeping him out there on the walks he loved.

The name has a second meaning too. TOBI stands for Tails Of Bamford Inc, the dog walking business where all of this began. It felt right that the brand should hold both: the dog who started it all, and the hundreds of dogs who helped shape it.

TOBI is a small, independent UK brand, which means when you get in touch, you’re talking to me. If you’re not sure which size to go for, or something doesn’t fit quite right, just ask. I’ve probably fitted a harness on a dog just like yours.

Here’s to better walks, and to Toby.
